Puppy Foundation Course

The perfect start for puppies & ideal for first-time owners too!

Introducing a puppy into a family is always an exciting time, but without the correct guidance that cute puppy can soon turn into a stroppy adolescent and then an uncontrollable adult that is not welcome anywhere!

Early Obedience

Our puppy foundation course teach owners how to achieve basic obedience such as sit, down, stay, come and walking on a loose lead. Puppies will learn through enjoyable exercises and be encouraged to listen to their owners, even when there are exciting playmates nearby.

Safe Socialisation

Many puppies often don’t get the chance to mix with other puppies regularly. These classes provide the ideal opportunity to meet and greet different breeds, in a safe and controlled environment.

Education & Support

Weekly information sheets will guide owners through the course to help make real progress with the puppy’s training.

We will talk about the various aspects of living with a puppy each week, e.g. dealing with mouthing, toilet training, chewing, handling and grooming, etc. All are welcome to ask questions and raise any concerns or problems for discussion and advice.

The course is ideal for both first-time and experienced owners. It’s also a great opportunity to get together with others to share the ups and downs of owning and training a puppy.

Open to All Dogs

The course is open to all dogs, mixed-breed or pure-bred and they do not need to be registered with the Kennel Club to participate.

The Perfect Start

So, why not take that positive step towards having a happy, well-behaved dog from the outset by enrolling onto our motivational, reward-based puppy course?

We welcome young puppies under 18 weeks of age at the start of the course, but please contact us if your puppy will be one or two weeks older.

Places are limited to give everyone the attention they need. This course can fill-up quickly and often months in advance, so please try to book when you know what date are going to collect your puppy to avoid disappointment. However, it is still worth checking with us, even if last-minute, as course places sometimes become available.

Josie Hawken

Puppy & Junior Foundation Course Trainer

Having been a firm dog lover all her life Josie came into formal dog training when faced with a particular cocker spaniel with attitude – what we like to call ‘a challenge’! Finding the whole question of canine behaviour and related training so fascinating, she embarked on the Intermediate and Advanced Think Dog training courses and was then accepted as a Member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. Josie owns a black Labrador and a long haired Corgi. Josie also offers one-to-one dog training by arrangement.
